See a completed comprehensive report that A1 Autocheck has provided. - Guide to Buying a Used Car – an important read before you sign on the dotted line.
All A1 Autocheck reports, except for our mechanical report, are based on our 180 point pre-purchase inspection. Whether it be our premium, 4WD, Prestige, Performance, Light Commercial or our Muscle Car Inspections. With each different inspection we offer we concentrate on key areas of the vehicle you’re looking at purchasing. For example, if your looking at purchasing a muscle car we look deeper into the body area of the vehicle to check that any restoration work that has been carried out has been done to a high standard and not just covered up. If your looking for a 4WD, we concentrate more on the driveline as offroad vehicles tend to suffer in this area.
So whether it’s a Commodore for the wife, or the 68 RS Camaro dream car you’ve always wanted, let A1 Autocheck inspect the next vehicle to grace your drive way.

Premium Inspection
Vehicle driveline – The engine is visually checked for defects and an audible test carried out for abnormal engine noise. It is also checked for piston ring blow-by and oil smoke. All associated components are checked for serviceability and correct operation. Engine emission systems are checked to ensure they comply with ADR regulations. Any engine modifications are noted on the report. Oil consumption cannot be checked as it requires strict test conditions which are carried out over a period of 5,000klm. In some cases exhaust catalytic converters can mask signs of engine oil smoke and this should be taken into consideration. If you suspect the vehicle is burning oil you should have an oil consumption test carried out and any faults found referred back to the dealer for warranty. Vehicles fitted with a timing belt should have their service records checked to ensure the timing belt has been replaced at the correct service interval. If no records are available we advise you to have the belt replaced to avoid engine damage. The engine cylinder head and block are checked externally for signs of failure, but the internal coolant passages cannot be inspected for corrosion or build-up of deposits. If the temperature gauge or warning lamp shows an overheating condition, this may indicate an internal fault requiring further investigation. Cooling system hoses deteriorate from the inside and this makes it hard to be absolutely sure they are serviceable, therefore we recommend all cooling system hoses be replaced and radiators serviced on vehicles over 5 years old and the correct coolant/inhibitors be used. Due to the complexity and accessibility to spark plugs on modern vehicles we do not offer an engine compression test. Engines that have a compression problem display signs such as rough running or misfire which is more noticeable at low rpm, it may also show signs of piston ring blow-by or oil burning as well as piston noise caused by cylinder and piston wear.
The gearbox is checked visually for oil leaks and damage. We also check the oil level and condition. The drive shafts are checked for play in the universals and constant velocity joints, and centre bearings are checked. We also visually inspect them for impact damage.
Differentials are checked for leaks and damage. We also check oil level and condition.
Suspension and steering components are checked for wear and corrosion. Chassis and sub frames are checked for damage, rust and corrosion. Bushes and ball joints are checked for excessive movement. Shock absorbers are checked for damage, leakage and the rebound checked. The steering is checked for play and wear. Power steering systems are checked for fluid level and condition, leakage and wear.
The brake system is checked for leaks, damage and adjustment. Wheels are removed and brake linings, drums, discs , calipers, hoses and pipes are checked for serviceability. The brake fluid is tested to ensure it meets minimum boiling point requirements. Park brake system is checked for operation and adjustment. Seized components will not be removed but noted on the report. Antilock braking systems are not fully checked as they require specialized equipment.
All tyres are examined for compliance, visible damage, mismatching and wear. The depth of remaining tread is measured and recorded (minimum legal tread depth is 1.5mm). Wheel rims are checked for damage and corrosion.
Electrical items are checked for operation and serviceability. Visible wiring is checked for security, condition, safety and corrosion. Air conditioning systems are checked for operation, abnormal noise and vent temperature is recorded. SRS airbags require specialized equipment and are not checked.
The body is checked for rust, panel and paint repairs, panel alignment and paint/panel condition. Alignment of chassis/body is not measured , no components are removed and all comments are based on a visual inspection only. Seat covers are not removed to check seat condition. Operation of door locks, handles, windows etc are checked for operation. Window tint condition will be checked for bubbling and vision distortion but is not checked for compliance.
Vehicles are road tested and checked for performance and correct operation. All driveline components are checked for noise and reported on accordingly.

Mechanical Inspection
Mechanical inspections are as per the Premium Inspection except the electrical and body components of the report are omitted.

Prestige Inspection
Looking at buying a prestige vehicle such as a BMW, Mercedes, Audi or even top of the range Holdens, Fords and Chrysler? Let A1 Autocheck give you a comprehensive report on your next prestige vehicle purchase. Please note that some electronic items cannot be checked on these types of vehicles due to specific model designated diagnostic equipment required.

4WD Inspection
If you’re after a vehicle to tow with or simply go off road then a pre-purchase inspection is highly recommended to ensure the vehicle can get you where your going. Additional items checked are the operation of the 4wd system including the transfere case, differentials and locking hub systems. We also check for impact damage to all areas of the underside as this area is commonly damaged from offroad usage. In most cases the 4WD system can not be fully tested during the road test as severe off-road conditions are not readily available.

Performance Inspection
Buying a HSV or FPV can be an exciting purchase, but is the vehicle everything it appears to be. Has the car been driven hard or been modified by the previous owner that may render the car unroadworthy. By getting a pre-purchase inspection we will tell you of any visible modifications and give you a detailed report for your piece of mind.

Light Commercial Inspection
If you’re looking at getting a second hand commercial vehicle for your business then it makes perfect sense have it checked to ensure that it will keep your business on the move.

The A1 Autocheck tester shall at all times thoroughly inspect the vehicle for any faults in parts and poor workmanship at the time of inspection.
A1 Autocheck is not liable in any way for the failure of components that tested serviceable at the time of inspection. Due to the restricted access to spark plugs on modern cars, engine compressions are not checked. To fully assess the vehicle driveline all components would require a complete strip down and assessment, as this is unviable these components are only checked visually and audibly for faults. All vehicles are tested at the legal speed limit for the area therefore faults over the speed indicated on this report may not have been noticeable at the time of inspection.
The A1 Autocheck Vehicle Inspection Report should not be considered as a warranty or guarantee of any description.
